Cold wintery bike rides…

This is the time of year when most people are facing a bit of a conundrum (love that word!). A likely New Year resolution is to get fit, start exercising more or loose weight, but at the same time, the weather doesn’t exactly tempt you to jumping out of the car and cycling to work instead. Nor does it make you feel like a stroll round the block instead of watching Eastenders.

For some people though, the commute to work is always by bike, and in this kind of weather, you want to have something nice in your belly to fire up the legs and make the ride in a bit quicker, easier, or at least less harsh.

Whether you are that cycling commuter, or just someone who wants an easy breakfast which will give you energy and keep you filled up until lunchtime, try my lush smoothie:

Soak a handful of porridge oats in some apple juice. Add a banana, some berries (frozen ones work well if you like it cool!), an avocado, a tablespoon of coconut (dessicated or fresh), maybe a few lettuce or spinach leaves, blend it up until relatively smooth, and drink away!

Yum yum.

  1. Hi Claire

10 out of 10 for your breakfast energy smoothie drink

    You described it as:

“something nice in your belly to fire up the legs and make the ride in a bit quicker, easier,”

“for someone who wants an easy breakfast which will give you energy and keep you filled up until lunchtime:”

Claire you were so right with your description of this energy drink

My Sunday 6am start for a morning of singlespeed mountain biking around the Forest Of Dean needed a long lasting high energy kick start…my ride was to be with a group of “fit butchers dogs”

Riding fuelled only by your breakfast drink I kept firing all morning with no dip in energy or need for supplemental
    food intake.

The right fuel = maximum fun

thanks again for your blog …keep em coming

    Simon
