Do not put your kid on a diet

I don’t care what anyone else says: if your child is overweight, do NOT put your kid on a diet. Not now. Not ever.

(disclaimer: I’m guessing there might be some cases when a diet is the only and urgent answer to an issue, but I’m putting myself out there by saying I believe those times are probably a lot less than you might imagine.)

And by ‘kid’ – not only do I mean the important child in your life. I’m also talking about your pre-teen. Your teenager. Your grown up kid. And, dare I say it, your own wonderful self.

No time to sleep?

So many of my clients say the same thing:

I’m so tired.

I’m knackered.

I don’t have enough energy.

Yet when I ask them how much sleep they are getting, the answer is often:

Not enough.

See, they already know that they aren’t getting enough sleep, but at the same time, they don’t prioritise getting the sleep that they need. They say they have no time to sleep.

We went to the pub (as is required) … Read more A slightly annoying way to prevent a hangover

How much water should I drink?

It’s a question I get asked all the time. People like to have a firm and definite figure to aim for, which is tricky because the answer will be different for most people. It can even be different for the same person depending on the season, what they’ve been doing, and especially dependent upon what … Read more How much water should I drink?

Hot burning lungs….

I don’t have asthma, so I really can’t claim to know how it feels when you just can’t breathe, but as a trying-to-start-running-a-bit runner, I definitely know how it feels when your lungs start burning and you can’t breathe in and you can’t breathe out.  Whenever I tried running as a kid, the lung pain … Read more Hot burning lungs….

Healthy Brains

Sometimes, we just don’t think about our brains. Or if we do, it’s just because it doesn’t work as fast as we want, or that it is just too full up of random information to do what we want it to do.

How our brains work is way beyond most of us. In fact, it’s way beyond most scientists too, because our brains are just way too complicated. I do, however, like to think that a few basics can make a great difference to quite a lot of brain issues.
